Redwood attends NW Athletics event

Date published: 30 April 2013

Redwood attends NW Athletics event - Ellis B, Lucy S and Brandon S attended the event last Saturday, they performed brilliantly and achieved some excellent results. At one stage it looked as though Ellis was going to be the ‘nearly man’ with 3 fourth places on the trot. However, he did manage to get into the medals coming a very creditable 2nd in the 200M. Lucy came 4th in the 200m, she was second in long jump and 100M and she won the 400M!

Brandon was his excellent athletic self, he came 4th in 200M, got silver in 400M and long jump. He did however save the best till last, literally the last race of the day! The 1500M -3 ¾ laps -he set off at a good pace opening up a 30M lead over the first 2 laps, his main threat started to slowly catch up and in the third lap had achieved a 15M lead, Brandon gnawed back at the lead and overtook his opponent with 300M to go. Down the finishing straight it looked as though he was going to be caught, suddenly he found some reserves and sprinted to a fantastic victory! Great thanks go to Carol from the 6th form for all her help on the day!

A group of students visited the cinema to watch Ice Age 4 — The Continental Drift as part of Autism awareness week. A big thank you to staff at the Odeon Cinema for offering the free tickets which enabled our young people with Autism to experience the cinema in an especially adapted environment. Everyone had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed the film.

Also a group of students and staff visited the Old Trafford Cricket ground to take part in a Cricket Event. Garry, Kenny, Liam and Aiden had a fabulous time. They played a game of table top cricket in a tournament against other Greater Manchester schools. The group did extremely well and played very competitively.
