Work starts on affordable homes for Rochdale

Date published: 01 May 2013

Construction work has begun on a £3.2million housing development to bring affordable homes to Rochdale.

Specialist affordable housing developer, Mulbury Homes is building the 32 properties on Boundary Street for Great Places Housing Group.

The new houses will be a mix of two, three and four bedroom houses made available for affordable rent.

A derelict industrial warehouse and office block are currently being demolished to make way for the new homes.

The properties will meet the government’s Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, Secure by Design Award and will be compliant with Housing Quality Indicators (HQIs).

Greg Mulligan, a director of Mulbury Homes, said: “This scheme will help to regenerate this neglected brownfield site and remove what was becoming an eyesore for local residents.

“These new homes will go some way towards plugging a shortage of affordable homes in this part of Rochdale where demand is high for this type of property.”

Great Places’ Housing Group chief executive, Matthew Harrison, said: “The new development at Boundary Street will meet the need for good quality, affordable housing in the area. It also demonstrates the commitment of project partners to change the local landscape for the better and create a sustainable community.”

The scheme is due to be completed in June 2014.
