Health and wellbeing your way

Date published: 25 April 2013

Representatives of Rochdale charities, voluntary organisations and community groups are sharing ideas and best practice to improve local health and well being.

The groups have all benefited from a share of a £1 million boost awarded by NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group (HMR CCG) to support 67 projects across the borough that work with local people to deliver health and community benefits.

A workshop took place at Rochdale Town Hall yesterday (Wednesday 24 April) to harness the good practice among those who received grants.

This included a diverse selection of programmes including sport, music, dance, advice, care and support groups.

Dr Chris Duffy, local GP and Chair of NHS HMR CCG, said: “It’s great to be able to support and encourage local community initiatives in this way.

“This networking event aimed to make our investment go further by tapping into the excellent work being led by these groups. It was about sharing ideas and bringing representatives together to learn from each other.

“There was a wealth of innovative and creative examples and we hope everyone left with plenty of fresh ways to develop their own projects and schemes. This will enrich and maximise the impact of the grants and will make a real difference to the lives of local people.”

The scheme also supports NHS HMR CCG’s aim to help the people of the Rochdale borough to help themselves.
