Hopwood Hall College students have impressed the owners of local business, Pacific Night Club, in Rochdale, with their graphic design skills, as part of a work experience project.
Pacific Night Club proprietors, Mark Foxley and Martyn Turner have been working closely with the College as they recognise the importance of work experience. They presented second year graphic design students with a brief to design a flyer to promote the club’s student night. The night involves local bands performing at Pacific and the brief was to promote this within the flyer.
Mark Foxley explained: “We feel it is important that local businesses help to nurture young talent and provide the opportunity for students to experience the world of work.
"The students at Hopwood Hall College produced some amazing flyers. It was great to see designs with a younger, fresh, perspective. There were a number of different variations, all to a high standard which made it difficult to choose a winner from. In fact, we were overwhelmed with the quality and innovative designs.
"We would certainly like to work with the College again in the future.”
College tutor, Sharon Drysdale, added: “Being able to provide students with the chance to have real business experience and work with clients on live briefs is really important. Experiences like this allow students to gain life skills as well as essential key skills. It is also an opportunity to produce work for their portfolios and can be used by students to support applications to progress onto university, apprenticeships and employment.”
The finished flyers were presented to Mark and Martin for judging. The winning design was from Yasin Mohammed. Yasin’s flyer will now be printed and used by Pacific in its promotional campaign.
Whilst impressing Mark and Martyn with their work, students also acknowledged the benefits of the work experience. They commented on how much they enjoyed working on the project and learning how to work to deadlines and to a set brief.
