St Cuthbert’s choir awarded 'Gracie Fields Rose Bowl' trophy

Date published: 17 April 2013

We have returned from our Easter break to focus on an intense term of examination preparation and course completion.

St Cuthbert’s choir have been awarded the 'Gracie Fields Rose Bowl' trophy for the 5th year in a row. This was awarded for their exceptional performance in the Rochdale Music Festival. They have also been invited to perform at the Selected Performers Concert. Any pupils who are interested in joining the African Drumming Group should go to the Music Block on Tuesday at 12.45. The Steel Pans Group rehearse each Wednesday lunchtime in M1. New members are always welcome.

This week’s theme was Devotion to Our Lady and our Enterprise capability was Personal Responsibility. This half-term’s focus for Year 7 is Problem Solving.

Thank you to all the teachers and students who came into school during the Easter holiday to engage in GCSE booster sessions. The after school sessions will continue this term.

It was lovely to see so many of our Year 7 parents celebrating their children’s achievements with us at our Awards Assembly last term. Well done to all our successful pupils, you are a credit to our community.

Our Big Tea Break to raise money for North Manchester Children hospital (where a Year 7 pupil was treated recently) raised £130. Thank you to everyone involved. Good luck to Sophie Bleakley, form 9.2, who is doing the race for life. Congratulations to Year 7 who completed the Big Fun Run. Could sponsor money please be sent into school as soon as possible. Thank you in anticipation of your support of our chosen Year 7 Lenten charity which is Francis House.

The Year 10 Football team were an absolute credit to the school, fighting back on three occasions to win the Greater Manchester Catholic Schools Cup. They eventually won the match 5 - 3 after extra time. Congratulations to all the boys involved - we are really proud of you!

Three of our Year 10 students, Katie Davies, Codie Higney and Benedicte Segemani, all had successful work experience placements with Rochdale AFC during the Easter break. Rochdale Football Club have donated four family tickets for their next home match to Year 7. Form tutors have been asked to nominate pupils who have made a positive contribution to their form and then a draw will then be made during assembly for the lucky winners.
