Oulder Hill Community School and Language College

Date published: 16 April 2013

Welcome back to all staff and pupils after what we hope was a restful Easter break.

On Sunday 24 March, students from Oulder Hill took part in the “Creativity Moves” showcase at Gracie Fields Theatre. Over 200 performers from around the borough performed to an almost sold-out auditorium.

Students from Oulder Hill were fantastic in both the Quantized Dance Company and the Redwood/Oulder Hill Unite Dance Company. Miss Bold’s group’s choreography was of a fantastically high standard, and the young people that took part in the UNITE project were so wonderful at supporting the Redwood students, overcoming their initial shyness in the sessions in order to make sure they were happy, confident and safe whilst performing on stage. All students were well behaved, polite and helpful to the visitors.

In English lessons the Nurture 7 students have been designing and making posters and bookmark to be used in their amazing new classroom library. This area has been funded and set up within a specialist room to help engage and interest students of Miss Peckitt. We have just purchased new bookcases and three thousand pounds worth of books of all types for this very important area. Students are now coming in early and spending as much free time as they can reading. We have gone for the full range of book types: big editions, talking stories, interactive books to use with the white board, pop ups and much more. This is a very exciting part of school and we are always working hard to be inventive and provide lots of materials to stimulate our children’s learning. The competition was judged by Library manager Mrs. McCarry and the winners were Amy Mennie for her eye-catching and colourful poster and Mohammed Kateb for his informative guide book to the novel “War Horse”.

Advance warning to parents and carers of Year 7 students that Parents’ Evening for your children will take place on Thursday 2 May between 4.00pm and 7.00pm. You child will shortly be making appointments for you to meet with their teachers.
