Cash stolen in robbery

Date published: 15 April 2013

Cash was stolen from a pub in Heywood.

At around 9.15pm on Saturday 6 April 2013, a staff member at the Pig and Whistle public house, on Pilsworth Road, was upstairs when she heard the door to the flat being rattled downstairs.

She went to investigate and as she opened the door, two men rushed in and shoved her to the floor.

One man put his hand over her mouth so she couldn’t shout for help while the second man went to the office, unlocked the safe and took cash out.

The two men took the cash and left the pub through the rear entrance into the beer garden. They ran off towards Melton Street.

Both offenders are described as white men. One was in his 20s and around 5ft 4in tall. He was wearing a dark coloured body warmer with a hood up and light coloured trousers. The other man was slightly taller and was wearing blue clothing.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses.

Detective Constable Andy Robinson said: “This was a frightening experience for the woman and luckily she wasn’t hurt. We would like to hear from anyone who saw two men matching this description in the area at the time or anyone who has any information about it to call police.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8701 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
