Woman needed CPR after rescue from house fire

Date published: 07 April 2013

A woman needed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) after being rescued from a fire in her home in Wardle.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Firefighters were called  at 9.06pm (Saturday 6 April) after reports of a fire on the ground floor of the house on Alderbank.

After finding the woman, believed to be in her forties, upstairs they carried her outside where they started CPR until the paramedics arrived.

Crew Manager Paul Greaves said: "A neighbour was on his way back from walking his dog and could smell smoke. He heard a smoke alarm and followed the sound and that led him to the property. He managed to get inside but it was full of black smoke so he came out, he tried to get round the back but again it was full of smoke."

Two fire crews from Rochdale and one from Littleborough attended the scene and carried out a search of the property.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.
