26th Rochdale Brownies have a taste of India at Milnrow Balti

Girls aged 7-10 from 26th Rochdale Brownies in Milnrow are hoping to raise much-needed cash towards a local leaders and girls trip to Sangam by taking part in the Sangam Challenge Badge.

The girls are aiming to raise money to pay for leaders from the local area to visit Sangam, which is one of the world guiding centres for World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in India.

During the trip the group will be learning about and embracing the Indian culture whilst undertaking a community action project within the local community.

To help raise money The Sangam Challenge Badge has been designed for groups to work towards in their meeting place.

The Challenge has encouraged the Brownies to learn about natural disasters in India, they have learnt about Henna and have made bangles, elephant masks, peacocks and played hockey and Indian corners. They have also learnt about the history and meaning of the Indian flag.

To conclude their challenge and be awarded their badges the girls have been to Milnrow Balti to try some of the food which the girls and leaders will be tasting on their trip.

Emma aged 9 said: “I have loved learning about India, at the Indian meal I tried everything, and like some of it.”

Leader, Fiona Wilson said: “This badge has taught me a lot about Indian culture, I hope the girls have enjoyed all the activities we have done.”
