International Co-operative Alliance Housing President visits Rochdale

Date published: 30 March 2013

The President of the International Co-operative Alliance's Housing Sector, David Rodgers, to Rochdale this week.

Mr Rodgers was in Rochdale to speak to the Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) Shadow Representative Body about good governance, and also took the opportunity to view first-hand RBH proposals for regeneration of parts of Lower Falinge, including plans for new mutual housing on Toad Lane, home of the Rochdale Pioneers.

Andrew Johnson, Vice-Chairman of the RBH Shadow Representative Body, said: "David delivered a brilliant speech about the global magnitude of co-operation and how co-operative principles - which were forged here in Rochdale - are still relevant and very important today."

RBH redevelopment plans for the Redcross Street and Waterhouse Street area of Lower Falinge involve the provision of 30 new family homes and bungalows, some of which would be located at the north end of historic Toad Lane. Mr Rodgers viewed the plans and was shown around the proposed site by RBH Development Project Manager Gemma Glossop.

Mr Rodgers said: "The Shadow Representative Body is a committed and dedicated group of elected representatives, and we had an informed and insightful discussion.

"The Rochdale Pioneers would be cheering at the idea of co-operative homes on Toad Lane, and these proposals show that their legacy lives on."
