Falinge Park Volleyball team awarded silver

Date published: 27 March 2013

Congratulations to 5 of our Falinge Park High School students who represented Rochdale Borough at Volleyball in the Greater Manchester Winter Games. They played 4 group games and topped their group with 4 wins.

In the semi-final they came up against an experienced Salford team but came out winners and met Tameside in the final. The Tameside team was far more experienced and prevailed over our students, who ended up being awarded the silver medal.

The students representing were Hakim Ahmed, Abdul Malik, Shohidur Rahman, Usman Akram and Abdur Rohman. Well done!

Many thanks to all the parents, friends and students who joined us for our ‘Dynamite’ Music Concert at Norton Grange Hotel this week. The show featured a range of performances from bands, groups and soloists. The concert proved a tremendous success and we were delighted with the feedback we received. A huge congratulations also goes to the students and staff who worked so hard to make it happen. A particular big thanks is given to Mrs. Williams for her dedication and hard work to bring the show together.

Money for the forthcoming CALL Visit to Leeds City Museum and Yorkshire Sculpture Park should now be in school with the completed reply forms. If this has not been done, can you please contact Mr. De Courcey in school as a matter of urgency or you may lose your place on the visits.

Well done to all the families and friends who braved the snow to join us on Carnforth Station for our Project Hugo Showcase last Saturday. Well done to all the dancers who took part in the Spiral Dance Showcase at Gracie Fields Theatre on Sunday. Over twenty learners from across the years too part and did us proud. Many thanks to MS Wystawnoha for her involvement in the showcase.

There are a series of workshops and revision sessions taking place over the holiday period for Key Stage 4 learners. If you are asked to attend a session then please ensure that you arrive at the correct time and depart promptly. Building work continues to be ongoing in the school grounds over this period and it is important that you follow the instructions issued by the teacher leading the revision session. We appreciate your help in this matter to ensure such sessions run smoothly.

There are still a few places left for the CEPA Faculty Edinburgh Visit which features the opportunity to see Matthew Bourne's ballet, 'Highland Fling' and to pay a visit to the Museum of Illusions, Dynamic Earth and the Real Mary King's Close. The visit to Scotland's capital also features a ghost tour and a walk along the Royal Mile. For more details, see Mr De Courcey.

We welcome our new members to Drama Club which runs every Wednesday in our Drama Studio from 3pm until 4pm and Mr Mvula and Mr Lomax have been leading a series of sessions based on improvisations and new drama techniques.
