Table-tennis team semi-finalists in Greater Manchester School Games

Date published: 26 March 2013

Congratulations to the Oulder Hill Community School Year 8 table-tennis team who were semi-finalists in the Greater Manchester School Games Competition.

They beat Oldham Hulme Grammar School in the quarter finals in what was a nail biting game. We then had to face Altrincham Grammar School in the semi-final and were narrowly beaten by 3 games to 1.

Again, like in the badminton tournament, this is the furthest a school from Rochdale has ever got in this competition so this is an achievement that we should be proud of. Well done lads! The players were Joe Wrest, Cameron Filkin, Will Taylor and Brandon Kwei-Sutcliffe.

In the semi-final of the Rochdale School’s Cup, the Year 11 football team lost a closely-fought game against Matthew Moss by 4 goals to 3. We should all be proud of the boys’ effort and determination, and even though they are out of the cup there is still a chance of silverware in the league competition.

Man of the match was Connor Fitton for his solidity in defence and his quality distribution. All the boys gave Connor a run for his money, especially Danny Buckley, Joe Whitworth and Michael Moore.

We would like to thank parents and carers of Year 8, 9 and 11 students who have attended Parents’ Evenings over the last few weeks. If you were unable to attend and would like to make an alternative appointment then please telephone the school to make an appointment.

School is now closed for the Easter holidays. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 15th April at 8:30am.
