Work to bring Metrolink to Rochdale town centre progressing

Date published: 23 March 2013

Work to bring Metrolink to Rochdale town centre is progressing well, with the majority of heavy civil engineering works, such as track laying, nearing completion.

Overnight next week, further elements of the overhead line equipment will be installed along Drake Street in Rochdale town centre.

Drake Street will be closed to all traffic between Water Street and Oldham Road from around 9pm to 4am from Monday through Thursday, 25-28 March.

As part of the works to construct the new signalised junction at Maclure Road and Drake Street, access to Maclure Road and Richard Street, from Drake Street, will be closed from Tuesday 26 March.

Diversion signage will in place for both these closures, advising drivers of an alternative route.

The town centre Metrolink stop at Rochdale’s new interchange is due to open in 2014. Metrolink thanks local residents and businesses for their patience during the construction works.
