Young woman victim of vicious assault

A robber punched a young woman in the face during a vicious attack in Castleton.

Police investigating the assault on Chesham Avenue on Thursday 7 February 2013 have released an e-fit of the offender.

At about 9pm, the 20-year-old woman got off the number 17 bus and was yards from her home on Chesham Avenue, when a man grabbed her.

He demanded that she hand over her mobile phone.

Although she had it, the victim told the man she didn’t and he punched her in the face. The blow knocked her to the floor.

The man again demanded the woman’s phone while she was on the floor where he proceeded to kick and hit her.

The victim was able to get to her feet, fight the offender off and run away. She managed to keep her phone.

The woman needed medical treatment for scratches around her eye, two lumps on the side of her head and a cut to the ear.

The offender is described as being white, in his late 20s, about 5ft 9in tall and of skinny build. He was wearing a light coloured Lacoste T shirt with the hood up and black tracksuit bottoms. He spoke with a local accent.

Officers have managed to draw up an e-fit with the help of the victim.

Police Constable Phil Booth said: “This was a shocking and vicious attack on a young woman who was yards from her home.

“We have been working closely with the victim who has had to recover from this terrible ordeal and it is thanks to her that we are able to release this e-fit.

“I would like to reassure the community that we are doing all we can to find the man responsible and that incidents of this nature are rare.

“I urge anyone who may be able to identify the offender from the e-fit, or any witnesses to this incident, to call us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4669 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
