World Book Day in Shawforth

Date published: 07 March 2013

St John with St Michael Primary School in Shawforth have had a wonderful day of celebrating World Book Day.

We are very keen to encourage all our children to read.

The children, and staff, have come dressed as their favourite characters from books.

There were 2 prizes per class for "The Best Dressed" and the winners received a book of their choice from Bright Books, a book shop in Rochdale who kindly came to our school to sell discouted books to the children.

The day has been packed with lots of wonderful activities.

The children were split into 4 groups and have rotated throughout the day in different classrooms.

Mrs Garner looked at the book "PANTS" by Nick Sharratt. The children had to design their own paper pants using different materials.

Miss Dalton looked at story telling using puppets and her groups made super wooden spoon puppets and put on a performance.

Mrs Oliver made beautiful bookmarks with her groups and Mrs Roberts did story sessions, with some of the older children reading to the younger children showing them how to use expression and pause for effect when reading. They looked closely at the characters and the features of a story.

All the children have done book reviews and they received a Book Token for £1.00 and a bookmark.

It has been a wonderful day filled with so much fun.

Fawn, age 5 said: "I really liked all the things we have done today, I made some "Cinderella pants" in class 3 and they are really beautiful and magical. It's one of the best books as Cinderella is a proper Princess!"
