Rochdale Sixth Form College opens its doors to the Mayor

Date published: 07 March 2013

The Mayor of Rochdale is set to visit Rochdale Sixth Form College on 12 March, to gain an insight into College life, as well as being presented with a donation towards his charity appeal.

Following a tour of the College’s state-of-the-art facilities, the Mayor will be presented with the £250 charity donation, raised by staff and students at Rochdale SFC, for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal, which will be split between three worthy causes; Springhill Hospice, Parkinson’s Society and Blind Welfare.

The Mayor will also have the opportunity to speak to staff and students at the College to learn more about life at Rochdale Sixth Form College.

Julian Appleyard, Principal at Rochdale Sixth Form College, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming the Mayor through our doors, and are eager to give him a flavour for the way we do things here at the College.”

The Mayor, Councillor James Gartside, said: “Rochdale Sixth Form College is fast becoming a key part of Rochdale life, particularly for young people in the area.

"I’m looking forward to finding out the secret to their success, especially in light of their excellent performance in the recent Department for Education league table results.

"I’d also like to thank all staff and students for their generous donation to my charity fund.”
