Oulder Hill pupils finish 4th in Masterchef Competition

Date published: 05 March 2013

We would like to congratulate Judith Yung and Georgie Terry on their fourth place finish in the Masterchef Competition held by Bury College.

Well done to the Year 7 and 8 table tennis team who are now Rochdale champions. They defeated a very talented St Cuthbert's team in the final and will now go on to represent Rochdale at the Winter Games competition, which will be held at the Etihad Stadium. The team were as follows: Will Taylor, Brandon Kwei-Sutcliffe, Joe Wrest and Cameron Filkin.

The Year 9, 10 and 11 team were also crowned Rochdale champions and beat teams from St Cuthbert's and Hollingworth High School. The players involved were Ali Samad, Adil Arfan, Jamie Pope and Bailey Smythe. Player of the tournament was Bailey Smythe, who did not lose a game throughout the competition. Well done lads!

In a closely contested game, the Year 11 boys’ football team managed to beat Failnge Park in the Rochdale Schools Cup competition by 4 goals to 2 and in doing so progressed into the next round. The goals were scored by Joe Whitworth (who continued his record of scoring in every game this season), Alex Maughan, Sam Fitton and Abdul Shahid. Man of the Match went to Sam Fitton who was excellent throughout and looked dangerous every time he got on the ball. Another notable performance came from the solid and uncompromising Oliver Fenton, who played at right back for the first time.

The History Department is running a trip to the battlefields in Belgium to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One. The trip is aimed initially at Year 8 and Year 9 students who have opted for GCSE History. Letters are available from Mrs Tarran and a deposit of £30 is required by Friday 15 March.

Well done to Isha Khan, Rebecca Marshall, Zulaikhah Shariff and Jake Naylor who raised over £140 for Cancer Research and should be so proud of their achievements. These students worked tirelessly all week baking cakes, making buns, selling chocolate shots and ended the week with fresh fruit and marshmallows being covered with chocolate from the chocolate fountains.
