Rochdale Principal chosen for national education conference

Date published: 01 March 2013

Rochdale Sixth Form College’s Principal Julian Appleyard will be inspiring and motivating senior school and college leaders across the UK as part of the ALP's National Conferences 2013.

The Conferences entitled "Improving Performance for all - the Student Centre Approach" was held in Leeds this week, with sessions in Birmingham on the 5th March and London on 12 March.

ALPs provides A level, AS level and BTEC Level 3 value added reports and training to over 1,400 schools and colleges nationally each year, Rochdale Sixth Form Centre being just one of them. The key objective is to raise continuously standards of student performance nationally.

The reports are immensely valuable as they give detailed analysis on performance; overall, by student and by subject against national benchmarks, so schools and colleges can see how they are performing comparatively. The analysis is value-added, taking into account prior achievement in order to give a true picture of performance.

Principal at Rochdale Sixth Form College, Julian Appleyard said: “I’m delighted and honoured to be speaking at these conferences and hope to demonstrate how successful ALPs has been in helping us make Rochdale Sixth Form College the success story that it is today. This is the second time I have been asked to be the Key Note speaker, the first in 2011 when the theme of the conferences was "Creating the Culture for Success" and this year I will be leading a one hour workshop session on “Effective Post 16 Leadership.”

The Chief Executive Mary Ahern said: “We really value the dedication, enthusiasm and support Julian and indeed Rochdale Sixth Form College have given us over the years and are delighted to hear how well the college has been doing on a national level. The aim of the conferences is to show how ALPs can be used to develop strategies for continuous improvement, improving student outcomes and life chances.”
