Council asked to improve the environment

Rochdale Cycling Club and St John Church team joined the Rochdale Environmental Action Group
Members of the Rochdale Cycling Club, volunteers from the St John's Church and members of the Rochdale Environmental Action Group cleaned the car park of the St John Church and Nye Bevan Centre, Dowling Street, Ann Street and adjoining streets on Saturday 23 February.
Members of the Group said that the open spaces, i.e. near Asia Restaurant, in front of Castlemere Community Centre and Drake Street have become dumping places where fly tippers throw their litter and rubbish.
REAG has asked the Leader of the Council, portfolio holder of the Environmental Management Services and Chief Executive of Rochdale Council to take immediate action to improve the environment of this area because the Metrolink is starting from Thursday 28 February.
A spokesman said: "These open spaces with litter and rubbish will not leave a positive impression on the passengers coming from other towns."
