New Learning Loans will help open doors for local adults

Date published: 19 February 2013

People aged 24 or over who wish to better their career prospects by going to college, will now find it more affordable thanks to new loans.

From this April, they’ll be able to access loans similar to those taken out by university students. The so-called 24+ Advanced Learning Loans can be used to cover the cost of tuition fees for studying courses which are Level 3 or above (A-level standard), including Advanced Apprenticeships.

Hopwood Hall College hopes that these loans will help lots more local people to better their careers prospects – or perhaps change their career to something they love doing.
John Spindler, Deputy Principal at the College explains how it works: “The new loans will work in a similar way to the current loan system for university students; fortunately you will only start to pay the loan back once you have completed your studies or training.

“What’s more you don’t start paying it back until you are earning over £21,000 a year and the repayments won’t start until April 2016.

“We help hundreds of local mature students each year to realise their dreams and re-train for a job that will make them happy. With courses ranging from accountancy to welding, there’s something for most people.”

It’s easy to apply for the loan, your household income isn’t taken into account and there’s no credit check. To find out more and check that you qualify for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan, simply call the College on 0161 643 7560.
