My World at Matthew Moss

Resilience is one of the ELLI (effective lifelong learning inventory) dimensions.

Resilience is all about taking risks with your learning by taking on new challenges and not giving up. It’s about making mistakes and correcting them but that is all part of developing your learning skills. You should not be afraid of having a go, because eventually you will get there after a bit of time; you will get there because you showed resilience.

An example of when I was resilient was when I went to Robinwood and I stood on the trapeze for ages saying “I can’t do this”, but in the end I just went for it! Also when I was on the year 7 camping trip, I was on the climbing wall and wanted to come back down but showed resilience by getting to the top at my own pace. We talk about resilience a lot in My World because learning is not supposed to be easy!

In December I transferred my resilience skills from My World lessons to PE lessons because I participated in a rowing competition and our team came second overall out of 15 schools where we had to row over 400m in 2 minutes; it was very challenging but we stuck at it and didn’t give up.

After half term some of my classmates will be writing about the other ELLI dimensions.
