A man who went to remonstrate with a group of people drinking outside a flat has been hospitalised after he was seriously assaulted.

Shortly after 8.00pm on Monday 10 February 2013, police were called to a flat block on Demesne Road following reports of a man bleeding heavily after being attacked.

Officers attended the scene and the man was taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The victim, a 24-year-old man is believed to have been hit over the head with an object and after he went to ask the group to leave the area. They are understood to have been asked to leave by the victim after they were making noise.

Detective Constable Mark Evans said: "The investigation remains at an early stage but we believe a group of up to six men were responsible for the injuries the victim suffered.

"We would urge any witnesses to this incident to come forward and tell us what they saw."
