Falinge Park High School

Many thanks to the learners of 7K2 who took part in our Halle Orchestra ‘Adopt a Player’ Project this week. Leaners and staff met with Halle Orchestra musicians and went along to the Bridgewater Hall this week to experience life as a professional classical musician. Many thanks to Mr. Jackson and Ms. Williams for organising and undertaking the project and to the learners of 7K2 for the enthusiastic participation.

Letters for our forthcoming CALL visits to Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Leeds City Museum in May have been issued to all Year 7 learners and reminders were also posted to learners via the pupil bulletin this week. We hope that you can help us with our planning of the events by returning your money and reply forms promptly. For more details, please contact Mr. DeCourcey.

Please note that our Year 7 and Year 8 Parents Evenings take place on the first week back after half term, and we hope that parents can join us for such an important event. Appointment sheets have been issued and learners should now be scheduling times with their teaching staff. Parking is limited and we ask that visitors report to Reception in our ICT block before waking directly into school.

Well done to all our leaners who have exhibited work as part of our ‘Weekly Art Gallery’ showcase this half term. Each week a learner has had their artwork exhibited to the school via our online platform. Next term will see more exciting work being showcased. The standard of artwork has proved really impressive and we look forward to seeing more talent in the near future. Many thanks to Ms. Rogerson for organising the gallery.

Next half term sees the completion of our ‘Project Hugo’ work with primary schools and we look forward to our showcase on Carnforth Station on 23rd March. The half day festival will feature visual arts; dance, drama, sculpture, creative writing and animation as well as live performances form learners, a host and a professional magician. For more details, please contact Ms. Wystawnoha or Mr. DeCourcey.

BTEC Technical Theatre leaners have been busy completing their Music Technology compositions and starting their ‘Stage Make-up’ course this week. We ask learners to bring an old T shirt for make-up work and they are welcome to bring their own cleansing and skincare products if they wish. Stage Make-Up is provided for all learners and tested to ensure that allergic reactions are prevented.

After half term, we issue our Cepa ‘Visit to Edinburgh’ letter for our trip which is open to Years 7 to 10. The visit takes place on the 24th and 25th May 2013 and features a wide range of museums and attractions, including a ghost tour, a visit to the Museum of Illusions, the ‘Dynamic Earth’ exhibition, the ‘Real Mary King’s Close’ tour and a chance to see Matthew Bourne’s ‘Highland Fling’ Ballet at the Festival Theatre. For a letter, please see Mr. DeCourcey as soon as possible after half term as places are strictly limited. The visit promises to be a very busy and exciting adventure for us all!

There is still a chance to complete our ‘I Love Dance’ and ‘I Love Music’ competitions and all completed forms should be handed in to the CEPA Office as soon as possible and before the deadlines posted on the forms. For more details, please visit the school website.

Tickets for our forthcoming show, ‘Furi: A Viking Story’ go on sale next half term and seating is strictly limited. Please contact school for more details or visit school website for further details.
