Kingsway community projects urged to act fast to secure funding

Date published: 11 February 2013

A share of £10,000 is up for grabs for community projects in Rochdale’s Kingsway area - but potential applicants need to act quickly as the deadline is fast approaching.

Projects wanting to apply to the second round of funding from the Kingsway Community First group need to apply by the end of February.

Community First panellist Emma King urged local community projects to get in touch so nobody misses out on a cash boost.

“We want to reach as many people as possible,” she said.

“Obviously with all the funding cuts we think some groups could really benefit from this.
“We don’t want anybody to miss out - if it is not spent by the end of the month people will miss out.”

Community First has already helped five community groups in the area - St Peter’s Multicultural Heathy Living Project, ‘People the Petrus Community Project’, the Newbold Luncheon Club, Mencap’s Social Inclusion Project and the Turf Hill Wardens Project.

“They are all doing absolutely smashing,” Emma said.

Kingsway Community First work towards five priorities - clean, green, communities, engagement and aims.

They work with local people to achieve cleanliness in the area, improve the green spaces and build an increased sense of shared identity.

Residents and community groups are also encouraged to get involved in local projects and work together to make Kingsway a great place to live, work and play.
