Mayoral appointment for award winner Paul

Date published: 08 February 2013

Inspirational Rochdale Boroughwide Housing employee Paul Blayney travelled to London this week to collect his prestigious Chartered Institute of Housing “Nicky Chapman” award from Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Paul joined over 600 senior figures and decision-makers from across the housing industry at the Institute’s annual Presidential dinner, held at the Natural History Museum. He was presented with his award by Mayor of London Boris Johnson and CIH Vice-President Paul Tennant.

Gareth Swarbrick, Chief Executive of RBH, said: “We’re immensely proud of Paul’s achievements and I’m delighted that he has had the opportunity to be recognised and receive his award on such a big stage”

Paul, from Hopwood, joined RBH in 2010 as a trainee community support officer and was appointed as an income recovery officer last May. He said:

“I am absolutely delighted to win this award and can’t quite believe it. I am very grateful for the recognition that I have received from both RBH and CIH and would like to thank all involved in my traineeship for their support.”

The national award, recognising disabled people who are doing excellent work in housing, was set up and sponsored by Habinteg Housing Association in memory of former tenant and board chair Nicky Chapman, who fought for equality throughout her life.
