Congratulations to Basketball & Badminton teams

Date published: 05 February 2013

Congratulations to the Year 11 boys Basketball Team for their performance in the Greater Manchester County Finals on Wednesday 30 January. They finished 3rd overall behind Derby High from Bury and Urmston Grammar School. This equals our best ever performance in this competition. The boys were a real credit to Oulder Hill and are a genuine school team as none of them play basketball for a club outside school. They have improved by attending lunchtime training and playing in school matches. Most other schools had club players and some had England players playing. Well done to the team: Michael Moore, Joe Whitworth, Abdul Shahid, Usman Muhammed, Connor Fitton, Declan Goulding, Tom Smeeton, Callum Knox, Philip Joyce and Anthony Burleigh.

Also a huge well done to the Year 11 Badminton Team for getting through to the semi-final stage of the County Badminton Competition, only to be beaten by Bolton Grammar School. Bolton Grammar are an exceptionally strong team, consisting of 3 Lancashire players, and were last year’s National finalists so in spite of eventually losing to them this is an excellent achievement. On the way to the semi-finals they beat Bury Champions Woodhey High School, St. Patricks High School, who were the Salford Champions, and also Urmston Grammar School. The players all thoroughly enjoyed the day and were a credit to the school and represented Rochdale with distinction. Congratulations to the players who were Adam Ahmed, James Haigh, Daniel Buckley and Adil Arfan. The boys regularly give up their lunch-times to practice and deserve great credit.

We would like to thank parents and carers of Year 8 students who attended the Year 8 Options Evening last Thursday. It was fantastic to see so many of you there to support your children with the important choices they are going to make in relation to their Option choices. If you were unable to attend and would like to find out more then please telephone the school to make an appointment. All the information is also on our website at www.oulderhill-school.com.

Year 8 Gifted and Talented students attended an Enrichment Day on Friday 8 February. The pupils attended a Space Show delivered by an Astrophysicist and learnt about the Science and Maths related to Space.

Just a reminder that Friday 15 February is an INSET day, therefore the school is closed to students. We finish for half term at 3:00pm on Thursday 14 February and reopen to students on Monday 25 February as normal. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on the 25 and hope you have a nice relaxing break.
