Borough's charities boosted by £1million

A £1 million boost has been given to more than 75 charities, voluntary organisations and community groups dedicated to improving the health and well being of Rochdale Borough’s residents.

NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group (NHS HMR CCG) invited charity groups to apply for grants for 12-month projects demonstrating local health and community benefits.

Dr Chris Duffy, Chair of NHS HMR CCG, said: “We are delighted to support and encourage local community initiatives.

“We’re committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Rochdale Borough and by working together with a wide range of local voluntary organisations, we can start to make a real difference.”

In their applications to the fund, charity groups had to demonstrate health and community benefits through promoting and supporting healthy lifestyles, mental wellbeing, carers, health initiatives and involving the local people in health and wellbeing development projects.

NHS HMR CCG’s investment will boost the Borough’s health and wellbeing through a diverse selection of local programmes including circus skills, sport, music, dance, allotment and park development, advice, care and support groups.

Added Dr Duffy: “A mix of meeting friends, having fun, sport and activities, hobbies, new skills and support is important for a healthy lifestyle and our mental wellbeing. Our community boasts a huge range of groups and charities working to help others and we’re delighted to help them to help others.”
