Littleborough Community Primary School
Date published: 01 February 2013
Our aim is to be the best. We are delighted that recent assessments have shown the vast majority of children making excellent and accelerated progress. You will hear more about your child’s achievements at Parents Evening on 7 February.
We want to make sure all children reach their potential, so after half term every child will have half an hour dedicated to precision teaching so that we are building on their individual learning in reading, spelling, handwriting and Maths. We feel this will raise standards even further. More details nearer the time.
We are also building on success in sport, music and of course the highest standards of achievement! The earlier finish time means we are running many more clubs after school (as well as before school and lunchtimes) – Football, Rounders, Netball, Choir, Athletics, Business Club, Gymnastics, Drumming, Dancing, Lacrosse, Shokk gym, Scooter club, Film Club.
Cbeebies have heard we have fantastic children here and are holding a casting session soon for a new TV programme.
We are delighted that so many children want to join our school. The Nursery in particular is getting very popular because of the wonderful teaching and learning opportunities as well as the hot lunches freshly cooked on the premises. They are very much enjoyed by the children in this cold weather! Working parents are supported by ensuring we offer care from 7.45am to 6pm for all children as needed.
Parents and grandparents are always very welcome to come into assembly on a Friday – we love to see you. Be a part of helping us break our record of 60 parents in on a Friday!! So please come along and support your child!!
Thank you to parents who are no longer using Facebook as a means of defaming the school and its pupils and staff, and keep us informed. As promised, we have now referred a libellous and threatening posting to the police who will be dealing with it on our behalf.
Please see the separate letter about the school closure. We are sorry we had to close, as we had tried every way we could to keep open. The letter explains that we had to wait for building inspectors and surveyors to decide whether they would let us open, and unfortunately at 8.17am the answer was no. That was when we immediately texted parents. The damage was substantial and we are still working with the LA and builders to fix the problems. Thank you for your understanding and for using the different entrances the next day as builders were still working on making areas safe at that time. The school is now completely safe.
We understand that several parents are interested in standing for election for parent Governor. The timescale was short because we were hoping to hold elections before the Governors meeting, but we will extend the deadline so that anyone who is interested can come and have a chat about it with me and/or one of the Governors.
Lion Club currently has a few places open for after school. We offer a variety of activities such as baking, Lacrosse, creative artwork, chess, outdoor play and football area, gardening and dancing and a substantial snack such as beans on toast, sandwiches, ravioli etc. Rates vary according to how long your child will be in the club so please come and ask about vacancies.
Getting Involved
Reception class pets Doris (the rabbit) and Maisie and Liquorice (the guinea pigs) are almost fully booked for this half term. If you would like to have them to stay one weekend please come and book in with Mrs Coupe or Mrs Cavanagh. Thank you for your kind donations of hay and sawdust.
This half term we will be making bird feeders and would be very grateful for (clean) empty yoghurt pots. If you happen to be clearing out we are always looking for extra Playmobil/Happy Street people or animals. Toy cars and wooden doll house furniture are also welcome.
Y1 would be very grateful for any donations of collage material for the children to use creatively in the resource area (buttons, feathers, pom poms, sequins, lolly sticks fabric etc.)
Y1&2 would love donations of socks, tights, underwear and P.E. kits that your child no longer requires – our emergency stocks are running low! Thank you.
Please could Y6 have any donations of old newspaper for art work. We also need all Y6 pupils to bring an old t.shirt or shirt for art lessons.
Enrichment
Our school Learning Platform is available for you to use student jotter to review your child’s targets. www.littleboroughlearnanywehere.co.uk
To help raise awareness and money for The British heart Foundation, the school council thought it would be a good idea to hold a ‘Rock up in Red’ day on Friday 1st Feb. Children are invited to wear a ‘Red Hat’ for a small donation of 50p. It can be bought or home made, be as creative as you like!
Local photography studio ‘Post Box’ is coming into school to photograph the children for individual and whole class pictures. They will be in school for four days from 11th Feb. A letter will follow to notify you when each year group is to be photographed.
Our next Parents evening is Thurs 7 Feb. More details to follow.
Our school choir, band, woodwind and dance group are all hard at work rehearsing for Rochdale Music festival. We wish them all the best of luck.
It has been decided we hold a ‘decorated egg’ competition at Easter. Further details will follow.
PTFA
The next meeting is to be held on Tues 26 Feb at 7pm in the staff room. As always everyone is welcome. Currently we are in the process of arranging some new and exciting events.
