NWAS thank mountain rescue teams
Date published: 30 January 2013
The North West Ambulance Service faced the challenges brought on by the heavy snowfall seen this past weekend with the expert help of local mountain rescue teams.
Some parts of the North West were hit by up to 25cm of snow on Friday evening, which had an impact on some ambulances being unable to reach patients' homes.
Acting Director of Operations Derek Cartwright said: "Inevitably we did see some ambulances getting stuck in the snow or facing inaccessible roads, and that's when we contact the mountain rescue teams for assistance. They have helped getting patients admitted to hospital, pulling vehicles out of snow and transporting patients safely from their home to the ambulance.
"During times of extreme weather the help and assistance they give to NWAS is fantastic, and I would like to personally thank all the Mountain Rescue Teams for all the support and help given, not just this weekend, but whenever we call upon them."
