Middleton cooking fire – two elderly men given oxygen

Two elderly men suffered from the effects of smoke following a cooking fire at sheltered housing in Middleton.
The control room at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) received a call at around 6.40pm on Thursday, January 24 to report the cooking fire.
Blue Watch firefighters from Chadderton were sent to Aspinall Street in Middleton where a trauma technician treated the two men with oxygen therapy.
The fire was out when firefighters arrived and they used a pressure fan to remove smoke from the property.
Firefighter David Wall said: "The flat was quite heavily smoke-logged when we arrived and we treated the elderly occupant for the effects of smoke.
"A second elderly man, who we believe was passing the flats when the alarm was sounding and went inside to see what was going on, was also treated for the effects of smoke."
The men did not require hospital treatment.
