St Cuthbert’s RC Business & Enterprise College

Date published: 23 January 2013

The Year 10 boys’ football team claimed another scalp in the form of St Peter's RC College with a 5-2 win to take their place in the next round of the County Cups. They are also still keeping their dreams alive of more success in the English Schools competition after once again reaching the last 32 schools in the competition.

The Under 16's girls’ Basketball team played their first games of the season in the Rochdale Schools competition with an outstanding display against Oulder Hill, winning 24 -3. It was a great team display, but special praise must go to Benedicte Segemani who scored over half of the team’s points. The Under 14s team were disappointed that no other schools entered the competition, but had a show down between their own A and B teams. Both girls’ teams now go through to represent Rochdale in the County Finals.

The Under 14s girls’ Badminton team competed in the Greater Manchester Competition representing Rochdale and gave a great account of themselves reaching the Quarter Finals. Great praise should go to Sophie Ullah, Anna Skinner, Sian Ollerhead, Roisin Weldon and Lily Jackson who are already Rochdale Schools and Greater Manchester Catholic Cup Champions.

The Year 9 boys’ Basketball team put in a sterling effort in The Rochdale Schools Basketball competition. Out of the five schools that attended, our boys won all four of their group games, including the decisive final match versus Holy Family. All of the boys who played were excellent throughout and at times made life very difficult for all their opposition. A great effort and well deserved Rochdale Champions.

The Rochdale Schools Indoor athletics competition took place at Springhill sports centre last Monday and hopes were high for a great performance as St Cuthbert’s have a strong tradition in this competition. The Year 8 team did not disappoint with both the girls and boys teams coming out on top.

External exams and internal mock exams have taken place again this week. Our school radio station – Amplify – is now in full swing. Pupils can access the station through our school website and can also listen during lunches and break times in year centres. If anyone else would like to be more involved with Amplify, please see Mrs Moore.

Well done to Mrs Murray and form 7.8 who were the attendance challenge winners last term, the form celebrated with the big breakfast on Tuesday. The challenge is in place again this term, can your form be the winners? The form with the best attendance this week goes to Miss Walsh and form 7.7. Congratulations to Kasandra Amanowska, form 7.7, the winner of the weekly achievement points draw.

A reminder that plain black shoes must be worn in school, in adverse weather pupils can wear boots/wellingtons to school must change into the correct footwear on arrival. Thank you for your anticipated support in this matter

This week’s theme was Forgiveness and our Enterprise capability was IMPROVING YOUR OWN LEARNING. This half-term’s focus for Year 7 is INDEPENDENT LEARNING.
