Many thanks to all the learners who joined us from across the years, for our second ‘Dressing Up at Lunchtime’ Drama session last Friday. Once again, we were inundated with learners who wished to join us and have some fun. There were plenty of photographs taken and the sessions continue every week through January on Friday lunchtimes in F5. Please see Mr. Morley or Mr. DeCourcey for more details.

Letters have been sent out to invite parents, friends and families to our Family Quiz Night on Thursday 7 February 2013, from 7.00pm until 8.30pm in the Drama Studio. Digital copies of the letter and team form can be downloaded directly from our school website. We hope that plenty of families will come along and participate. Teams of four cost £4.00 for the whole team. If you are unable to make up a full team, then please submit a form anyway as we will try to help you form a team on the night. For more details, please contact Mr. DeCourcey.

Tickets for our forthcoming Music Show, titled ‘Dynamite’ go on sale shortly. Tickets can be purchased from the CEPA office at break times, lunchtimes, and after school. For more details, please speak with either Ms. Williams or other Music staff.

Mr. DeCourcey, Ms. Wystawnoha and Mr. Morley paid a visit to the children of Norden Primary School this week as part of our ongoing ‘Project Hugo’, work. We were absolutely delighted with the quality of practical work produced and the photos will shortly be posted on the special ‘Project Hugo’ website for staff across schools to access. If you would like further details of the project, then please contact Ms. Wystawnoha directly in school.

Year 7 Gifted and Talented learners worked with the well-known children’s author, Tommy Donbavand, famous for his ‘Scream Street’ series and a forthcoming Doctor Who novel. The author spent several hours with learners on workshops devoted to character, narrative techniques, before learners wrote their own stories which will be published in the near future.

The CEPA Faculty has posted a series of Health and Safety Expectations display documents around the specialist rooms to help learners get the best from specialist equipment and spaces. The posters advise learners how to use particular equipment and where and when to ask for help in order to aid learner development. For more details please see Mr. DeCourcey, Mr. Walker, Ms. Williams and Ms. Wystawnoha.

There are still spaces for the visit to see ‘Hairspray!’ in Manchester on Thursday 14th February. For a letter and more details, please see Ms. Williams, Ms. Wystawnoha or Mr. DeCourcey.

Please note that the postponed Parents Evening for Year 9’s and 10’s will now take place after half term when hopefully the weather is more predictable. The date will be issued in schools next newsletter, and also on the school website. Please make every effort to attend. Your child is ultimately the one that benefits from us meeting.

It would be helpful if parents do not ring the school switchboard about potential school closures due to snow. School will try to remain open.

However better methods are:
• The school website
• The council school closure page on their website www.rochdale.gov.uk/snow
• The school Facebook page
• The school Twitter feed.
• Local radio
