Man jailed for assault which left victim with life changing injuries

A man has been jailed for two and a half years for an assault which took place in Rochdale last year.

Sean McEvoy (24/07/1991) of Queensway, Rochdale pleaded guilty to section 20 assault at an earlier hearing.

yesterday, Friday 18 January 2013, he was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court to two and a half years in prison.

At 6am on Saturday 20 October 2012, McEvoy punched a 24-year-old man from Littleborough in the face outside the Pacific Bar on South Parade in Rochdale.

He punched him with enough force to throw the victim backwards to the ground where he was knocked unconscious. He suffered a bleed to the brain and a fractured skull.

Detective Constable Michael Berger from Rochdale CID said: “This incident has shown how throwing just one punch can have devastating consequences.

“It has left one man with life changing injuries which have also had a great impact on his family, whilst another man has been given a jail sentence for his actions.”
