Severe weather in Cheshire and Greater Manchester
Date published: 18 January 2013
More than 60 schools across Greater Manchester have closed early due to snow.
Two football matches on Saturday have been called off because of frozen pitches; Bury FC v Stevenage and Rochdale v Gillingham.
The Young Voices show featuring 7,000 children singing at Manchester Arena later has also been cancelled.
Manchester Airport said it has had a few flights cancelled due to weather at other airports but it remains open.
A spokesman for Northern Rail said it is running a normal service and was unaffected by snow.
The University of Bolton closed its doors at 12:00pm.
Meanwhile, Macclesfield Town FC are appealing for volunteers to help clear their pitch so Saturday's match against Kidderminster can go ahead.
