Ella‘s plea for hospital charity

Ella Chadwick, aged 5, from Rochdale, is calling on the people to host their own Big T Break in support of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

Ella was diagnosed with Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome, a condition that affects the kidneys, when she was just a few weeks old. In 2009 she underwent surgery to remove both her kidneys and was placed on dialysis until a donor could be found.

In 2010 her dad, Martin donated his kidney but sadly the transplant did not work. Ella now visits the hospital three times a week for haemodialysis and occasionally for a longer stay when she becomes really poorly.

Ella would like lots of people to join her and charity mascot Humphrey Bear in the annual Big T Break on Friday 1 March to support Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity, which is raising money to ensure continued excellence in treatment, care and research at the hospital.

Ella’s mum, Karen said “Our family has experienced firsthand the huge difference that the charity can make to a stay in hospital. If you could put yourself in the position of a parent with a poorly child who regularly visits the hospital then you would realise the huge impact it makes knowing your child is not frightened of attending hospital thanks to the child friendly environment provided by funds raised by the charity.”

The Big T Break will take place on Friday 1 March and participants who register will be entered into a prize draw to win a year’s supply of tea. Participants will also be sent a fundraising pack, with posters, a collection box and a special recipe to make their event a huge success.
