The frozen, snow covered Rochdale Canal
Yellow warning for ice for Wales, Northwest England, the Midlands and parts of southwest England.
Showers coming southeast across the area tonight will fall as snow above about 200 m, where more than 5 cm is possible locally. More significant is the risk of icy roads as surfaces freeze behind the showers.
North West England - Cold and mainly dry. Severe frost developing overnight.
Today:
A very cold, icy and frosty start for many. Remaining mainly dry through the day with sunny spells. Just the small chance of an isolated wintry shower, mainly over the Pennines during the morning. Maximum Temperature 1 °C.
Tonight:
Remaining dry with a severe and widespread frost developing through the evening and overnight under clearing skies. Some freezing fog patches forming, especially in the south. Minimum Temperature -7 °C.
Wednesday:
Largely dry with some sunny spells and light winds after a very frosty start. Freezing fog slow to clear in the south. Severe frost returning through the evening and overnight. Maximum Temperature 0 °C.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
Staying cold and dry with some bright or sunny spells through Thursday and Friday. Becoming cloudier and windier Saturday. Severe overnight frosts.
