Vote for ambulance governors

Date published: 08 January 2013

For the first time ever, residents of Greater Manchester can vote for local people to become governors of North West Ambulance Service who will work with the Trust’s bosses on future plans and influence how the service spends its money.

A total of 20 public governors will be elected from the ambulance services’ existing membership of over 8000 people, to form part of a 37 strong council. Along with 11 governors that will be elected from the service’s workforce, there will be 5 appointed from partner organisations including the British Heart Foundation.

Governors will have opportunities to have a say in the Trust’s plans and influence its strategic direction. Governors will also represent the needs of the communities in which they live; to ensure the ambulance service is responsive to the diverse population living in the five counties it serves.

Voting commenced on Thursday 3 January 2013 and closes on Monday 28 January 2013. The successful candidates will be announced on Tuesday 29 January 2013.

Chairman at North West Ambulance Service, Mary Whyham, said: “If you’re a member of the Trust then I would like to encourage you to use your right to vote.

“As a resident of North West England, you have a vested interest in the health services available to you and the ambulance service is no different.

“We hope you never have to call upon us, but if you do, wouldn’t you like to be able to say that you’ve had a role to play in the service?

“We’re very excited about working with our Governors in the near future to ensure that we continue to deliver a first-rate ambulance service that is responsive to the needs of local people.”
