Car leaves road and ploughs down embankment
Date published: 31 December 2012
Motorists travelling from Milnrow and Newhey to Shaw found the A663 Milnrow Road closed at the junction with Buckstones Road, Shaw yesterday (Sunday 30 January) after a car left the road and ploughed into trees on an embankment close to the new Metrolink line.
The incident happened around 1.30pm and police, fire and ambulance crews were quickly on the scene.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to free the motorist, who was then taken to hospital to be checked over.
Police at the scene confrimed the male occupant of the Ford Focus car was very fortunate and had escaped unscathed.
The road was closed for two hours whilst fire crews and a recovery truck dragged the car back up the embankment.
Residents whose houses back onto the road said this is the second incident of this type in the past year.
