Junior Wardens celebrate

Date published: 23 December 2012

The Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) Junior Wardens have celebrated a year of achievement at a Christmas Party laid on for them at Turf Hill Initiative Centre.

Entertainment at the Christmas Party was provided by The Creepy Crawly Show, and rounded off by the presentation of awards for Junior Wardens of the Year and for the winner of the RBH Christmas Card competition.

Junior Warden of the Year awards were presented to Philippe Wetu (Lower Falinge), Mia Kelly (Wood Street) and Nathan Cosden (Kirkholt).

Nicky Morris, Community Action Team Manager, said: "I'm delighted with our Junior Wardens who are wonderful ambassadors for their communities. They can be very proud of their achievements this year, and I'm pleased that so many of them were able to attend and enjoy the Christmas Party."

Congratulations also to Charlotte Rankin (aged 10), an Alkrington Junior Warden, whose striking design won the Christmas Card competition. Charlotte won an art and craft gift sets and 10 cards printed in her design to give to family and friends. Ten runners-up received a £5 gift voucher.

Charlotte's image will now be used as the RBH corporate Christmas e-card and to accompany the RBH Shoebox Appeal gifts.

Over 60 local children have now signed up as RBH Junior Wardens, and the scheme empowers young people aged 8-12 to play vital roles improving their neighbourhood and community. As part of the community activity, Junior Wardens have visited sheltered schemes across the Borough in the run-up to Christmas to sing carols and hand out gifts.

Lower Falinge Junior Wardens also sang at this week’s RBH Christmas Appeal Members Party.
