Council staff generosity to vulnerable children

Rochdale Council staff have bought extra presents this year and donated over 200 to vulnerable children.

After hearing about Key 103’s ‘Mission Christmas’ campaign the council decided to help out, encouraging staff to donate gifts or money so presents could be distributed to children and young people living in poverty across Greater Manchester, many who may otherwise wake up on Christmas morning without anything to open.

When Rochdale’s Argos store heard about their efforts they kindly donated some extra gifts to the collection too.

Linda Fisher, Director of Corporate Services said the response from staff and businesses was fantastic: “We wanted to do something to help such a worthy cause and I have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by everyone. We’ve already collected more than double the number of gifts we were aiming for, with lots of presents here already and more arriving every day. Hopefully we will have played a small part in helping some children have a better Christmas.”

The gifts range from clothing, jewellery and make up, to toys, sportswear, toiletries and teddies.
