St Cuthbert’s BEC begins the road to Wembley

Date published: 20 December 2012

We may already be approaching halfway through The npower Football League season, but for one local girls team the road to Wembley is just about to begin.

St Cuthbert’s BEC fought its way through local play-offs against rival schools to be named as the official representative for Rochdale in The npower Football League Under 13 Girls Cup.

Successfully making it through to the next round of the competition, St Cuthbert’s BEC will now compete against schools representing other local npower Football League teams in their area finals.

Due to take place w/c 11 February at the home of Doncaster Rovers, the winner of each of the area finals will go through to the Regional Finals stage in February, to battle it out against other successful teams for a place in the prestigious grand final to be held at Wembley Stadium in the build-up to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final on April 7 2013.

Sponsored by npower, the npower Football League Girls Cup is a nationwide six-a-side tournament for U13 schoolgirls. A second competition, The npower Football League Kids Cup is open to U11 mixed teams and sees three finals (one for each npower Football League division) played at Wembley stadium before the corresponding Play-Off finals.

The 11/12 season saw more than 2,000 schools take part in the two competitions, meaning just under 20,000 schoolchildren were involved. All Hallows Girls School representing Aldershot Town clinched the 2012 npower Football League Girls Cup title.
