Protecting vulnerable young people is a priority for Greater Manchester’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Tony Lloyd. 

Following yesterday's HM Inspectorate of Probation report on the work of youth offending teams with looked after children, Tony said: “Protecting vulnerable young people is a priority and this report has once again brought child protection issues under the spotlight. Children in care are often more vulnerable to becoming involved in crime and all agencies have a responsibility to prevent this, work with young people to get to the root causes of crime, and look at alternatives to criminalising them.

“This report highlights how important it is for agencies to work together to make sure vulnerable young people are protected and are given the best start in life. In Greater Manchester, I am bringing together the top child protection people from all ten councils and the police to share best practice and work together to ensure our young people get the best possible protection.”
