High fliers call order to the courts

Date published: 17 December 2012

A group of law students from Rochdale Sixth Form College donned their wigs and presented a fictional legal battle in the Manchester Crown Court room in front of a Crown Court judge.

The exercise was part of a national competition run by the Citizenship Foundation where they were asked to argue three cases in court against other colleges and schools from across the country.

Jenna Taylor, law teacher at Rochdale Sixth Form College, said: “The students’ ability to deliver powerful speeches and hard hitting questions was fantastic.

"We also had students acting as the courts clerk and usher and they certainly managed to keep order in the court room.

"Unfortunately we didn’t get through to the final but the judge commended the college for getting so far.”

Many of the students who took part in this practice moot are hoping to pursue a career in the legal profession and are preparing to attain good A Levels at Rochdale Sixth Form College to help them to get to university followed by Law School.
