Mrs Santa Clause and the Mince Pie Special

Date published: 10 December 2012

The Mince Pie Special train organised by Friends of Littleborough Stations (FOLSs) and  Supporting the Oldham, Rochdale, Manchester Lines (STORM) in conjunction with Northern Rail was a great success on Sunday 10 December.

This was the fourth year it has been run from Littleborough to Manchester Victoria station and between 150 and 200 people joined the train at Littleborough and Smithy Bridge stations with yet more at Rochdale.

Mrs Santa Claus and her helpers gave out presents to the children and mince pies to the grown-ups whilst Littleborough Public Brass Band played Christmas tunes and carols accompanied by a choir from Littleborough Churches Together and Holy Trinity Primary School. The entourage moved through the train performing in each of the four coaches and then under the Christmas tree at Victoria Station until it was time to return to Littleborough.

Thanks to Northern Rail, STORM and FOLSs for the children's presents and mince pies, the last one of which was enjoyed by the driver.

Next year STORM plans to run a Mince Pie Special on the tram from Rochdale to Manchester via Oldham. The problem is eating food on the tram is forbidden so FOLSs will still be running one from the two Littleborough stations.
