GMP and Chris Bisson launch police museum app

Date published: 10 December 2012

The Greater Manchester Police Museum has launched an app to enhance the experience for visitors.

The app offers members of public an audio guide to accompany them on their visit to the museum and is fronted by the actor Chris Bisson who plays Jai Sharma in Emmerdale. Chris is a keen ambassador for the museum and has offered his time and voice for free.

Visitors can download the app for free and explore the history of policing through facts, figures and quirky anecdotes at their own pace. Other features include a historical photo gallery and mugshot camera that allows users to take vintage looking photos of their friends.

Chris Bisson said: “The GMP Museum is one of Manchester’s hidden gems and I’m delighted to support their latest venture.

“Voicing the app was great fun to do and I hope visitors to the museum will find it as informative as I did when putting it together.”

Duncan Broady, GMP’s Museum Curator said: “The museum celebrates the history of policing and enables visitors to see exactly how times have changed and how policing has evolved to meet today’s needs.

“Policing has moved on and the museum has too. It’s really exciting that we will be using the very latest technology to explain and bring to life some of the oldest memories of policing in Greater Manchester.”

The app was produced by Sam Shupac as part of his student placement programme. Sam is now a freelance web and mobile designer based in Manchester.
