'Hate crime’ under investigation

Date published: 31 July 2012

What has been deemed a ‘racial attack’ on the property of Mohammed Salim is under ongoing enquiry by the police.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday 25 July, saw Mr Salim’s property, currently home to two of his children, vandalised by graffiti in the early evening.

The graffiti, which reads ’11 and wantin (sic) more’ along the side of the terraced house on King Street South in Rochdale, is believed to relate to Mr Salim’s eleven children.

Islamic activist Mr Salim said: “My kids were out of the house at the time and came home to find this. I’m worried about them; what the hell are they going to do now?”

Mr Salim is a well-known figure in the Rochdale area for his religious work and often controversial views. He said: “I think it could be to do with me writing stick about the Queen.”

Greater Manchester Police said: “An enquiry’s going on at the moment and nobody has been arrested yet.”
