Success for engineering apprentice

Date published: 01 May 2012

A budding engineer from Rochdale has just successfully completed his first apprenticeship.

Aaron Davies works for HDM Engineering in Rochdale, a manufacturer of baling presses for the textile and waste industries and has just completed his apprenticeship without having to go to college.

Practical training, delivered at his workplace and supervised by a company mentor, has been complemented by online learning and regular visits and online contact with his training assessor.

Aaron commented:” E-learning puts you in control and allows you to study at your own pace. If I had any problems with the material, I could contact my assessor to discuss any problems and if necessary resolve any queries on his weekly visit.

“Companies are always asking for practical experience and this is the ideal way of gaining it.”

Andrew Dell, managing director of HDM Engineering commented: “Our congratulations go to Aaron - we are really pleased with his progress.”

Alistair Gladstone, divisional director of training provider YP Training, explained: "E-learning is second nature for learners who have grown up with the latest technology.

“For many apprentices, it provides a much more successful learning experience than college and for them and their employers it avoids the disruption which can be created when they disappear to college for long periods.

“We think this new approach is the best way forward for many apprentices and their employers.”
