Litterbugs from Rochdale who ignored their fines now have criminal records.
Four people were convicted for their careless environmental crimes at Rochdale Magistrates Court on 13 October 2010.
Kristina Hayes, 45, of Gainsborough Drive, Rochdale and Jordan Hibbert, 18, of Ings Lane, Rochdale were ordered to pay a total of £371.75 and £368.21 respectively in fines and costs, despite failing to turn up at court
Shayan Raja, 22, of Royds Street, Rochdale and Simon Grange, 30, of Milnrow Road, Rochdale both pleaded guilty by post and were each ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £215.
All four were seen dropping litter in Rochdale Town Centre by Enforcement Officers and were issued with £75 Fixed Penalty Notices but chose not to pay; now they’ve ended up even more out of pocket.
David Clayton, cabinet member for environment and leisure at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “These four convictions show our continuing commitment to reduce litter and the causes of litter within the borough to make our towns cleaner, safer and greener for all residents and visitors to enjoy.”
A total of 20 people have now been convicted of waste offences in Rochdale borough this year.
