Appeal to find good Samaritans following Milnrow crash

Date published: 18 October 2010

Police are trying to trace a man and woman who came to the aid of a motorcyclist who died following a road traffic collision in Milnrow.

Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who saw either vehicle involved being driven in the area beforehand.

Shortly after 6.40am on Monday 11 October 2010, police were called to the junction of Harbour Lane and Elizabethan Way following reports of a collision.

Officers attended and found that Yamaha had collided with a VW Polo motorbike.

The rider, Michael Leslie James Hopson, 51, was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital but pronounced dead a short time later.

Police Constable Danny Byrne, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: "I am anxious to hear from anyone who either saw the collision or any of the vehicles immediately beforehand.

"In particular, I believe a man and woman stopped at the scene to assist Mr Hopson and helped move his bike out of the carriageway but who left before police arrived and who may have some vital information as witnesses.

"Our initial enquiries have also revealed that another motorist may have seen Mr Hopson riding along Wild House Lane just before the collision. That motorist, at the time, may not have been aware of the relevance and again may have some vital information.

"I am therefore keen to hear from these and any other possible witnesses contact the Roads Policing Unit on 0161 856 8473."
