Heywood couple die following motorbike crash

A couple from Heywood have died in following a motorbike crash in Lancashire.

Keith Lowcock, 55, and his 48 year old wife Elaine were on a Honda CBR 1100 motorcycle on the A682 Burnley Road, near Gisburn, travelling towards Barrowford when they lost control on a left hand bend and crashed into a fence close to Howgill Lane at around 5.30pm yesterday (Saturday 16 October 2010)

Mr Lowcock, who was driving, was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife, who was a pillion passenger, was airlifted to hospital in Leeds but died a short time later.

Sergeant Pete Sculpher from the Road Policing Unit said: "A police investigation has been launched into the incident and the couples' family are being supported by a police liaison officer.

"Anyone that witnessed the incident or with any information is urged to contact Eastern Road Policing on 01254 353211 or Lancashire Police on 08451 25 35 45."

The road was closed for more than four hours yesterday to allow for an investigation.
